Ayew: Newcastle equaliser one of my best goals
Jordan Ayew rates his equalising goal in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Newcastle United among the best in his career and believes Aston Villa can build on their performance at St James' Park to survive the Premier League.

The bottom club were staring down the barrel of a 13th defeat of the campaign after some slack defending at a corner had allowed Fabricio Coloccini to bundle home the opener in the first half.

However, Villa earned a share of the spoils just after the hour mark when Ayew shook off Daryl Janmaat before hitting a thunderbolt of a shot into the left-hand corner.

"I think this [the goal] is one of my best," Ayew told Sky Sports after the game.
"Three points is better, but one point is better than nothing. We still have games, if we play like we did in the second half we'll get some wins. When luck is not on your side it is difficult. We will continue to work hard."

Villa manager Remi Garde, meanwhile, was full of praise for the way his team fought their way back into the game in the second half.

"I think the mentality of the players this afternoon in second half was brilliant," the Frenchman said. "I need to use that as a base to work on. My disappointment was we played only 45 minutes.

"If we can play 90 minutes like the second half we will have chances. We need that to get out of this situation."

He added: "The attitude was really different [in the second half] from the first half. In the first half we didn't win challenges, we were out of the game in terms of intensity and lost all the duels.

"If you can't win the ball you can't win the game. We tried to win that second half and of course the coming of [Rudy] Gestede was very important for the team."
