Aguero to return against Arsenal but Kompany ruled out
The City boss has reveaed that the Argentina striker is training without
any problems ahead of Monday's clash, but the captain is still on the
sidelines
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says there is a very good chance Sergio Aguero will be fit to play against Arsenal on Monday night, although Vincent Kompany will miss out.
Aguero has been out of action since November 28, when he limped out of the 3-1 victory against Southampton with a heel injury.
The Argentina striker returned to full training last week and appears ready to make his latest comeback at the Emirates Stadium
Kompany, however, is yet to join up with his team-mates on the training pitch and will miss the top-of-the-table meeting, along with Fernando and long-term absentees Pablo Zabaleta and Samir Nasri.
"Kun is working with the squad, we will assess if he is 100% or not and he is working without problems," Pellegrini said on Friday. "I think he will be in the squad, yes."
"Pablo Zabaleta he continues without working, I hope that next week he will start with the whole squad. Vincent Kompany is out injured, Fernando and Nasri are the four players that did not work this whole week."
Kompany picked up yet another calf injury while on international duty with Belgium in November and has been on the sidelines since, but Pellegrini is hopeful he can soon return.
"He is improving," he added. "I hope next week he will start working with the squad."
City travel to Arsenal on Monday just one point behind their north London rivals, and with both clubs looking to claw back Leicester's lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Pellegrini played down the decisiveness of the match, insisting there is a long way to go in the season, but did admit it is an opportunity to damage a title rival's chances.
"It is not a decisive game because after that we have to play 21 games more, a lot of points, but it is important to demonstrate who is the best team of the first round and it is important to play against the team who is one point above our team.
"It is a very important game. It is a game of six points. You can win three and the most important rival with Leicester or United will stay in the same position."
